What is Tattoo removal treatment?

Tattoo removal is a treatment carried out on a person who has a tattoo, by ND-YAG Q switched laser, to remove the tattoo completely. In this a laser is used to remove the tattoo step by step or layer by layer, depending on the area of the tattoo and the colours used in it.

People who want their permanent tattoo to be removed completely can opt for this treatment after consulting a dermatologist.

What is the mechanism of action?

Laser treatment initiates the pigment present in the tattoo to break in small fractions. These fractions are then rejected by the body, to push the pigment out from that particular area. The light energy of this laser is very effective in initiating tattoo removal.

Things to Know

Minimum 4-5 sittings are required to completely remove the tattoo depending on the depth and colour of the tattoo. And at Satya skin and hair clinic it can be done in 3-4 sittings.

ND YAG Q-switched laser. ND YAG is a colourless isotopic crystal. Laser activity in the crystal is provided by neodymium ion with a wavelength of 1064nm reaches the deep layers of the skin tissue. The frequency used in ND-YAG Q switched laser is gradually increased which leads to absorption of all the pigment and gradually the skin attains normal skin colour.
Tattoo removal is extremely safe procedure with minimal or no pain and gradually the skin starts healing.
No there are no side effects of this procedure. But one must take precautions as advised by the dermatologist. Do not use betadine or savlon after the procedure.

A person undergoing tattoo removal treatment has to take some precautions like:-

  • Use sunscreen lotions and antibiotic creams as prescribed.
  • One must avoid direct exposure to the sun soon after the treatment.
  • One must avoid makeup on that particular area.
