The Q Switched Nd-Yag laser has two wavelength 1064 and 532nm. The mechanism o action of this laser includes a dual effect of photothermal and photomechanical phenomenon which in combination helps in selective photothermolysis.
Pulses of laser light targets the red pigmented areas of the skin typically at 50 milliseconds pulse duration and an output energy of 150-250 J/cm2. This wavelength of high energy laser light will heat the target area and destroy the melanin. A topical anaesthesia may or may not be required before the procedure. Protective eye wear is provided to the patient during the course of the treatment. The hand held device activates the laser as it is placed against the skin. Once administered, a healing gel is applied for faster healing.
